Parks in Paris for a rustic ambience

Parks in Paris for a rustic ambience

Paris is a busy city. That’s part of its charm, of course, but occasionally you might find yourself yearning to escape the tumult for the tranquillity of a verdant space. Fortunately, the capital offers a wealth of parks and gardens for you to discover. Here is our selection of some of the less well known, including one with its own bar, so you can go green in the heart of the capital.

Exceptional gardens in Paris

When you choose the Hotel de la Paix for your stay in Paris, you’ll have the chance to visit some quite exceptional gardens. Not far from the Hotel de la Paix is the Arab World Institute, which currently has a temporary garden of sumptuous loveliness set up on its forecourt. This cornucopia of exotic plants, colours and scents is presented in tandem with the Gardens of the Orient exhibition currently running at the Institute. Reflecting the Eastern garden tradition from the Alhambra to Al-Azhar Park in Cairo, it’s an enchanting sensory symphony of jasmine, roses and orange trees. Of a more permanent nature is the Japanese-style garden of the Buddhist Pantheon, an annex of the Musée Guimet. Comprised of well-tended exotic plants, ponds, a stone bridge, giant bamboo and a tea ceremony pavilion, the Zen ambience of this magical place will transport you to the land of the rising sun.

A rustic bar on a hill overlooking the city

Before you return to the Hotel de la Paix, a stop at the rustic Rosa Bonheur bar in the Parc des Buttes Chaumont is strongly advised. Savour a drink beneath the trees and enjoy the greenery and a lovely view of the park. If you are here with your family, make a small detour to the old train depot. Here you can find old locomotives, an urban farm, a playground, restaurants and a bookstore, not to mention a chicken coop, pétanque court and markets.
